Tsuna looks up from the thermometer, the mercury line inching downwards, and finds Yamamoto grinning and waving a mummified hand in the air. He suddenly has a very bad feeling about this as Yamamoto laughs, “Isn’t it gnarly looking?”

Almost full-force sprinting over, Gokudera drops the video camera on the ground in favor of his jeweler’s magnifying glass. Why he has it with him on a ghost hunt? Tsuna doesn’t know. He very quickly learned not to ask questions he doesn’t actually want the answers to during these past few weeks under Reborn’s tender mercies:

“Are ghosts actually real?” he had asked that first hunt, skeptically, like any normal person would.

Notes: Jin Chi, or as he refers to himself in this "A-Chi", is Jin Rusong's birth name in this fic. This is set in a verse where his murderers decided to not only be paid for murder but also try and get paid a ransom as well.

A-Chi’s smelt more dirt in the past three days than he has in his entire life. Not that five years is an awful lot of life, but the closest thing to dirt in Koi Tower was the mud in in the lotus pond Bofu made for Bomu. So far, he’s been carried by sweaty men with dirt under their fingernails- one prefers tossing A-Chi over his shoulder, leaving A-Chi’s nose pressing into his back, and another grabs A-Chi’s wrists and ankles in a grip that he can’t break no matter how much he wiggles. He’s been dropped in mud and breathed in dust and lost a shoe and hasn’t had his hair washed so it’s oily and gritty and-

He shoves a knuckle into his mouth, biting down enough to hold it there. The man who throws him over his shoulder doesn’t like it when he cries. His knuckle tastes like dirt, and it grits against his teeth.

Kafka follows the warm scent of coffee downstairs, her fingers running along the bottom edges of pictures hanging on the wall. Hushes voices and sweet laughter grow steadily louder, and her heart squeezes in her chest.

The last stair gives her a view into the kitchen, her wives smiling over steaming mugs of the bitterest coffee known to man. A smile graces her lips as she leans, cross-armed, against the wall.

Twisting around with a frown, Feixiao asks, “Did we wake you?”

Kafka shrugs, “I was cold.”

“The horror,” Himeko laughs.

And Kafka slides between them again with shared kisses.

Reborn’s Box of Horrors more like, Tsuna thinks, and he closes his eyes and counts to ten again. Before he can think about it any more, he thrusts his hand into the box and grabs whatever it is inside.

It squishes. Like a wet ball of socks, only tackier.

Kafka/Himeko/Feixiao: A Casual Manifesto

Written for polyamships Three Weeks for Dreamwidth

This ship was supposed to be one (1) fic. It was meant to poke fun at myself for the way my Feixiao and Kafka pulls went during the 2.5 patch. I lost both my 50/50s, Feixiao and Himeko came home at exactly 78 pity each, and Kafka showed up literally one patch after Himeko, using one of the three pulls I got from losing the 50/50 and getting a Himeko eidolon. And then I thought about it…

Firstly, their ultimate lines go together so well: Feixiao's "Victory is inevitable!" and Himeko's "Humanity never conceals its desire to control the heavens… And I'm no exception." vs Kafka's "Good times never last" FIGHT!

Like its about fighting fate until it unfolds in your favor vs already preparing yourself for when things inevitably slip through your fingers and also its about the desperation to turn the tide vs the matter-of-factness that the tide will turn one day (or else)

And then I wrote a different fic for them and in responding to the comment I got on it, I said:

They're all such badasses, and each of them are incredibly devoted to their respective path/duty, and they will absolutely choose those duties above each other because that is What Must Be Done but it will also be their absolute last choice every time. And God help you if you cross any of them

As you can see, I am incredibly normal about my pool noodle, and in case anyone is wondering: No I haven't finished that initial fic yet. Instead it's been joined by 7 other WIPs and an additional plotbunny I haven't even started working on

Evil Phasmophobia Thoughts

AKA Thing I Think Would Be Funny to Have In-Game, But Would Piss Off A Lot of Gamers

- The ghost should be able to push the pins on the voodoo doll if you're holding it near them
- They should give us a map with a gas stove that the ghost can interact with. Comes with a chance of death by gas or explosion if you leave it on for too long :)
- There should be a really rare chance to spawn in on a map with no ghost and the reporting option for it to be like "Cat" with the heavy implication that all the haunting shit was literally just the homeowners' cat
- Mimic should give all the evidence for the ghost type it's mimicking plus its own evidence (whether that's its own set of three, a random pick from its three evidence to be a fourth evidence, or the random ghost orbs we get already)

Additional, less evil thoughts:
- We should get a backpack as a loadout option
- The fact checking off ghost orbs as acquired evidence auto-eliminates mimic in the journal is evil. I will forget that is an option

hopeswriting asked me on Tumblr if I was maybe feeling some sort of way about Kyoko recently because I had queued up like her entire Kyoko tag to reblog. So I took the opportunity to ramble about my girl for a bit:

Firstly, it is so so so important to me that she's a girly girl. She's the class idol! She wears pink! She likes cake and cute things and pretty dresses! She fits into the gender norms expected of her in a way I never did, and I have worked so hard on learning to love those things for her and other characters like her.

Secondly, she is so incredibly kind to pretty much everyone. Incredibly soft-spoken, mild mannered, almost endlessly cheerful and optimistic and so incredibly naive. The only time we really see her reach for violence (as far as I know/remember) is when Reborn shoots her with the Dying Will Bullet the first time and she immediately marches downstairs to have Words™ with Nana about calling Tsuna "No good". This girl, who literally asked her brother not to fight because she couldn't bear seeing him get hurt, is ready to throw hands over one of her friends being called "No good". Which I think says a lot about her priorities tbh.

The sky stretches out beneath her, all dark rolling hills and twinkling lights. Wind whips through her hair, pulling it out of her ponytail until it blows free. She laughs, and the sound rings.

Above her, fiery wings shield her from the worst of the cold. They cut through wispy clouds like butter on a hot pan. Beneath them, her arms glow like dawn’s light.

Haru should be afraid. It’s a very long fall to the ground after all. But the arms around her waist hold her securely to a firm chest, and her lips still taste of marshmallow sugar, and she knows if she looks up, she’d find lavender eyes which have seen across thousands of worlds and there isn’t a single one where he’d let her fall.

“What do you think, my Haru-chan?” Byakuran whispers in her ear.

“Haru thinks it’s beautiful.” Then, wistfully, she adds, “I wish I could see us from the ground. Perhaps we would be a shooting star Haru could wish on!”

Her angel laughs. “Ah, my sweet Haru-chan, never change. What need do you have for wishes anyway when I’m with you?”

And Haru finds herself unable to name even a single wish.

Venti lifts a bottle of dandelion wine from the rack and weighs it in his hands thoughtfully. Maybe…? No, not this one. He sets it back and instead reaches for another bottle further down. Behind him, the old grandfather clock ticks ever closer to the hour, and the candles burn steadily shorter.

Diluc’s late coming back from the tavern, he thinks with a thoughtful frown. He’s been doing that a lot recently. The dark circles beneath Diluc’s eyes grow darker every time Venti visits Angel’s Share, and he wouldn’t be much of an Archon if it didn’t worry him. Sighing heavily, he sets this bottle back as well.

The manor continues to sleep as he finally makes his selection, carrying the bottle over to the table with a glass. If Diluc isn’t here to stop me, he can yell at me when he gets back. It’ll serve him right for working so late. Venti chuckles in anticipation of the vintner’s displeasure.

Just as he’s about to pop the cork and pour the wine, the manor doors burst open with a BANG!, and Diluc stumbles in, hand clutching his side.

Picturing a Varia slumber party the night before the Cradle Affair

Just Xanxus, Levi, and Lussuria fighting over the clippers because they want new edgy haircuts for the battle. There's a shopping bag with bleach and hair dye off to the side because Luss also wants to dye his hair and "Wouldn't it look so colorful and stunning? ^-^"

Bel passed out somewhere. On a couch, in someone's lap, curled up in the corner on a blanket pile. Come morning he'll 100% deny ever falling asleep, but Mammon has pictures of him yawning and jerking himself awake until sleep finally won

There's music playing just a bit too loud, and every fight (between Squalo and Xanxus in particular) that breaks out over it results in it being turned up even higher

Magazines and catalogs of all kinds spread all over the floor. The latest in weapons, sports, fashion, cars, and hot models are all represented. Some pages have been torn, paper airplanes thrown, and at least one magazine is stuck up on the ceiling somehow. The model's face smiling down upon them

The room smells of polish and hair spray and takeout, and they talk and laugh and fight until just before dawn

And then when the battle's over, they come back to find it all still out. A time capsule of the Before. It's days, maybe weeks, maybe even never before they can bring themselves to clean it all up

And sometimes when they're alone, though they would never admit it, Mammon pulls out the pictures from that night and runs their hands over the feral grins caught in fading color

Unceremonious yoink from Tumblr because we're feeling it today. Last time I did this was in 2024 over on tumblr, and that was 37 fics and almost 35k words ago. So I'm curious to see if anything's changed, or I'm staying consistent. I've included my first lines from 2024 as a comparison to today's first lines.

What have we learned?
So last time, I said that I thought my overall pattern was that each opening line kind of set the scene and overall tone of the fic. And I'm not sure I can say the same for this batch of opening lines.

Here's the thing: In context, they do. They are all the foundations upon which the rest of the fic is built upon, and I don't think the rest of the opening would hit the same without them. So what's the difference between 2024 and now? Some quick observations:

- stars in your eyes and Mandevilla sat in my Scrivener file for a couple years before being posted. And to me, those ones match the 2024 openers the most. One fic is humor, the other is fluff, and it's pretty obvious which is which from those lines alone in my opinion. What you see is what you get.

- Overall, my opening lines have gotten shorter. I also think it's notable that one of the longer 2026 opening lines belongs to the Lord of the Rings inspired fic, so there was a very specific vibe I was trying to capture there

- These openers are more action-oriented. A character or some part of the setting is actively doing something. 2024 had more narrator-style set-up lines. Had softer imagery. Had character desires front and center. In some ways, they had more variety.

But: the 2026 list has shorter fics - Hand in hand and Kissing Prayers are only 200 words, and different from before is only 300. In total, 6/10 are under 1k. By contrast, 7/10 of 2024's openers belong to fics over 1k, 3 of which are around or above 2k. I didn't start dabbling in true drabbles until the end of 2024. So, it makes sense that I'd use shorter, more active openers in shorter fics. And there are many paths to tread is actually a great example for a longer fic opener for me because it clocks in at 1500 words (not including it's appendix of flower language), and it wouldn't look wholly out of place from the 2024 openers.

So I think it's less I've changed my writing style, and more that I've been writing shorter fics again/being more comfortable posting "fresher" fics. Two drabbles of the 2026 list were Discord prompt responses that I just tweaked a bit and tossed up mostly as is because why not? <- Not a thing that happened in the past. I also suspect that picking up more hobbies- like coding, graphics making, reading more, etc. - means I have less time or attention span going towards writing. So the fics that get finished tend to be the shorter ones I knock out in a single session.

I do want to get into a better habit of writing everyday because I do have longer ideas and WIPs that I want to post. Maybe next time I do this I'll have a bunch of multi-chapters fics to look at and go "Well why I did I start doing that?!" XD

Kafka runs a hand through gray-brown hair. The sweat and unwashed oils have turned the usually soft strands into a wiry, almost sticky mass that cannot be comfortable to have hanging loose. She gathers a section, divides it into three, and as she begins to braid it back, Stelle hums into her stomach.

“You like that, hun?”

Stelle mumbles something, sleepy and contented. She shifts in Kafka’s lap, almost pulling her hair out of her partner’s hands, until she’s blinking up at Kafka, golden eyes stark against her fever-flushed cheeks. Kafka hums a little “Oh” of sympathy as she brushes the sweat from her forehead. For a moment, those golden eyes close, her darling leans into her hand, and a gentle sigh of relief warms the air between them.

It seems like Stelle then slips back into her dozing state, so Kafka returns to the braid in her hands. She’s tying it off with a burgundy ribbon when Stelle asks:

“Would you still love me if I was a worm?”

Kafka can’t help it. She laughs. Of all the things to ask, she leans her face against one hand and strokes Stelle’s fevered cheek with the other.

Deep creases form in her darling’s brow, and Stelle’s nose scrunches up like an adorable little rabbit’s. “Kafka,” she whines. “It’s a serious question.” Her bottom lip sulkily pouts out.

“And you’re the only one who would ask it.” Kafka fishes for one of Stelle’s hands, presses it to her lips with the adoration of a knight. “Of course, I’d love you, hun. Where would I be without you?”

This time, the red that spreads across Stelle’s face has nothing to do with her fever. “Kafka!” She whines again, burying her head back down in her partner’s lap. And Kafka laughs and laughs.
